As part of my blog series on Brisbane City running, I had the pleasure of running the South Bank Park run on Saturday, 8th of February. Touted as the most popular Park run in Australia, it didn’t disappoint as 677 participants turned up. Much like my experience at New Farm Park run the week before, this run was not just about the physical challenge but also about running through iconic Brisbane landmarks while enjoying the stunning surroundings and the vibrant community spirit.
The Route
The South Bank Park Run starts at the picturesque River Quay Green, offering breathtaking views of the Brisbane River and the city skyline. The route takes you along the river, passing through lush parklands and bustling urban spaces. It's a relatively flat course, making it perfect for setting a personal best if you're up for the challenge. On the day of the run, the weather was warm and sunny, with a gentle breeze that made the experience even more enjoyable.
Scenic Highlights
One of the standout features of the South Bank Park Run is the diverse scenery. From the serene river and city scape views to the vibrant South Bank Parklands, there's always something beautiful to look at. The route also takes you past the iconic Wheel of Brisbane and the stunning Arbour, with its flowering bougainvillea adding a splash of color to the run. The combination of natural beauty and urban charm makes this run a visual treat.
Community Vibes
South Bank is a hub of activity, and the Park Run is no exception. Families were out enjoying the parklands, children were playing, and fellow runners and walkers greeted each other with friendly smiles. The sense of community was strong, making the run feel like a shared experience rather than a solitary endeavor. The volunteers and organizers were incredibly supportive, adding to the positive atmosphere.
Reflections
As I crossed the finish line and took a moment to stretch and cool down, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to run in such a beautiful and welcoming environment. South Bank offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, urban landmarks, and community spirit, making it a must-visit for any runner in Brisbane.
Final Thoughts
If you're looking for a scenic and enjoyable run in Brisbane, the South Bank Park Run should definitely be on your list. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, the park's picturesque routes and vibrant community will make your run a memorable one.
